The Nursing Board Examination

Posted in Catharsis, Musing on 28 August 2007 by Richmond

The 2007 nursing Board examination result is finally here. Boy, it must have been tough waiting for it. I have been dreading about my own licensure examination since I was in sophomore. And now that I am in my senior, the thought of me finally taking the exam next year is just unbearable.

If ever next year I got lucky to pass my Major subjects and graduate and take the examination on June 2008, and after two months the result finally came, please do not ask me about it if ever I did not post an article about its result. I won’t post anything about it if ever I failed my own examination and then we can all just pretend that I did not take the exam. Okay.

School Nursing at Isang Libong Kuto

In the Operating Room Without a Clinical Instructor

Posted in Nursing Internship on 20 August 2007 by Richmond

(Click Image to Enlarge) I wouldn’t be able to take my licensure examination without the complete list of my cases in Delivery and Operating Room. That’s why our whole group hates our last Clinical Instructor. It seems that she doesn’t realize how much important the number of cases are for us. She’s too lazy. She didn’t want to go to the hospital just because Malacanang suspended the classes last week so our group was not able to take any cases. Unlike the other group’s CI who even calls and wakes up her students at  2AM to handle a case. Last semester, our schedule for OR was 6AM-2PM but she just have us signed the attendance then waved us goodbye as early as 6:30 AM. We didn’t get any case.

Pasmado Ka Siguro

Posted in Nostalgia, Nursing Internship, Pinoy Affairs on 10 August 2007 by Richmond

One time I had a half-Aeta-half-Tagalog patient who has just given birth to a baby boy. Since it was extremely hot in the room (this happened last March) she was profusely sweating. Her hair was already disheveled. Her maternity dress was scruffy. Seeing this, I instructed her that she can take a bath if she wants to. This is actually my tactful way of saying ‘Hey missy, I think you need a bath, you already smell.’

PasmaBut then her Aunt (who is a traditional “hilot”-healer- in their area) butt in, and rejected my idea and started lecturing me about the ill effects of bathing just after giving a delivery. “Baka malamigan, mapasma pa yan at mabaliw.” (She might get cold, she might catch pasma [a traditional “illness” characterized by tremors and cold sweats], this might lead to insanity.) she said as-a-matter-factly. As a Nurse in Training I told her that this belief has no medical basis but to my horridness Reza, my classmate, joined the little conversation, siding with the old woman.

Korea

Posted in Nostalgia, School Affairs on 5 August 2007 by Richmond

Out of 107 students to attend this partcular 8AM-5Pm subject, only five of us were present today. The talk is deeply enriching anyway, and we were dismissed at three.

PS. should i take an elective in Korean or not?
